Air Force

When I was five years old I was fascinated with airplanes. Being a pilot was that dream I had as a kid that most have, yet few pursue. When I picked my favorite football team, my dad presented me with all the logos of the teams. I picked (no surprise) the Jets and have stuck with them ever since.
I have taken a large step to achieving my dream, and that is by enrolling in AFROTC here at Penn State. I applied for a scholarship, but was turned down. This made me think considerably about whether i should still pursue my dream or not. I decided too. It my very well have been the best desiosion I've made so far. I get no money for being involved (yet, hopefully I will pick up a scholarship) but I am enjoying this program a lot. If you have ever been apart of a large group then you know what I mean. I dont exactly know why, but I enjoy the workouts and marching drills. ROTC will make me a better person, and you can't really understand what it is like until you are in it. Unfortunately it's something thats hard for me to explain, and maybe only one other person in our class can understand because he is in it too. I cant speak for both of us, but waking up at five in the morning does not seem as bad now as it sounded three weeks ago. To tell the truth, I was not very excited about what I was about to begin, and during the summer I constantly worried about what ROTC would actually be like.
Now that I have started the program it has grown on me. It helps out with my studies, physical fitness, morality, and will teach me invaluable skills.
Hopefully, I will get a scholarship, and then achieve a pilot or navigator spot when I graduate. If not I will try to become a pilot in some other type of aircraft, helicopters would be next on my list. I am glad I joined ROTC, even if it does not lead to me piloting an F-22 or B-2 I think I will enjoy the experience and gain so much more from college by being in ROTC than not.
